Explore Representative Layers

Geospatial Intelligence Layers combines hazard and weather intelligence with vulnerability analytics, population exposure, critical infrastructure, and country risk indicators. While many mapping services focus on weather and climate, DisasterAWARE also provides a broader view of the people, infrastructure, and communities that may be impacted.

Five Questions, Five Layer Themes

⚠️

What threats exist?

Explore hazard intelligence including floods, wildfires, tropical cyclones, earthquakes, and severe weather.

🎯

Who is most at risk?

Visualize vulnerability, coping capacity, infrastructure access, and socioeconomic indicators.

🌍

How resilient is the region?

Assess country and regional resilience indicators, governance metrics, and development indicators.

👥

Who might be impacted?

Analyze population density, population exposure, and demographic information.

🏗️

What critical assets are exposed?

Map hospitals, airports, transportation networks, utilities, emergency services, and other critical infrastructure.

Wildfire Weather Index

Understand Where Wildfire Conditions Are Most Conducive to Fire Growth

The Wildfire Weather Index (FWI) provides a globally consistent measure of wildfire potential by combining temperature, humidity, wind speed, precipitation, and fuel moisture conditions into a single indicator of landscape flammability.

Derived from Copernicus and ECMWF weather data, the index highlights areas where environmental conditions may support wildfire ignition, spread, and intensity — even before a fire occurs.

Six classification categories

Very LowLowModerateHighVery HighExtreme

Common Applications

  • Utility wildfire risk monitoring
  • Forestry and land management
  • Insurance risk assessment
  • Critical infrastructure protection
  • Emergency preparedness
  • Supply chain and operational risk monitoring

Why It Matters

Wildfire Weather Index helps organizations move beyond monitoring active wildfires and instead understand where conditions are becoming favorable for wildfire development and rapid fire growth.
